Google Manila Headquarters Workplace Wayfinding
Google HQ Manila Workplace - EGD
A six-floor environmental graphic design program for Google's Manila office expansion with local Filipino cultural identity.
Expertise: Wayfinding Strategy, Environmental Graphic Design, Brand Adaptation, Themed IllustrationsGoogle's Manila office expansion was conceived as more than a workplace upgrade. As one of Google's most significant Asia-Pacific operations, the Manila headquarters needed to carry the company's global brand expression with the consistency expected of a Google environment — while also reflecting the cultural specificity of the country it sits within. The brief was to develop an environmental graphics and wayfinding system that did both: distinctly Google, distinctly Filipino, and operationally clear at the scale of a multi-floor regional headquarters.
Creative Dialog, in collaboration with Paperspace Singapore, developed the wayfinding strategy and environmental graphics across six floors of Google's Manila office. Each floor was anchored to a different thematic universe — a programmatic decision that turns conventional floor identification into a journey through the cultural, environmental and digital narratives that shape contemporary Filipino life.
The themed floor identities span Filipino mythology and the country's natural landscape, the vibrant tropical biodiversity that defines Manila and the wider Philippine archipelago, the energy of contemporary sport and urban culture, the architectural and systemic logic of the workplace itself, and the human-centred narratives of communication and connection that sit at the core of Google's product story. Each floor was developed as a complete graphic environment — not isolated wall installations but immersive, narratively coherent design worlds that envelope every elevation a visitor or staff member encounters.
The Filipino mythology floor draws on imagery of legendary heroes and the country's volcanic and mountainous landscape, with iconography referencing the sun emblem of the Philippine flag, lunar imagery, and the natural and supernatural traditions woven through Philippine cultural identity. The tropical biodiversity floor is anchored in the country's distinctive plant ecosystem — monstera, banana palms, and the layered greens of equatorial rainforest — translated into bold contemporary illustrations that bring the natural environment indoors. The sports and urban culture floor celebrates Filipino basketball culture, with energetic figure compositions and graphic motion treatments that capture the kinetic atmosphere of Manila's contemporary sporting and street culture. The workplace systems floor reflects the architectural and operational rhythms of the office itself — geometric patterning and figure-led compositions that show people at work, learning, building and collaborating. The communications and connection floor uses abstracted device, data and conversation imagery to express the interlinked digital lives that Google's products enable.
Across all six floors, the system is calibrated to Google's brand standards while delivering the operational wayfinding clarity a multi-floor regional HQ demands. Directional signage, floor identification, meeting room nomenclature and amenity wayfinding all operate within the thematic environments without competing against them — a careful integration of brand-adapted wayfinding strategy with deeply illustrated environmental graphics.
Throughout, the materials and finishes are specified for the operational performance a Google workplace environment requires, with detailing calibrated for Manila's tropical climate. Wayfinding hierarchy is bilingual-ready, supporting Filipino and English script alongside Google's global typographic system.
The result is a workplace where every floor tells a different story but the building speaks with one voice — Google's regional HQ in the Philippines, unmistakably Google, unmistakably Filipino, and unmistakably integrated into the cultural context it serves.
